How to Label AI Videos on TikTok and Instagram
By the TrendMe team · Updated
To label an AI video on TikTok, tap More options on the post screen and turn on AI-generated content. On Instagram, turn on Add AI label on the final screen before you tap Share. Both platforms require a label when AI content looks realistic, such as a real-looking person or scene, and may add a label or limit reach if you don't.
Both TikTok and Instagram ask creators to say when a realistic video was made with AI. It takes one tap, and skipping it can get your post labeled for you, removed, or count against your account.
When you need a label
The rule on both platforms is about realism, not about using AI at all. Label your video when it shows:
- A real-looking person, including you, doing something that didn't happen
- A realistic scene or event presented as if a camera filmed it
- An AI voice or audio that sounds like a real person
You generally don't need a label for AI-written captions or hashtags, color correction, or clearly cartoon-style visuals.
How to label an AI video on TikTok
- Edit your video and go to the post screen.
- Tap More options.
- Turn on AI-generated content.
- Post. The video shows an AI-generated label.
TikTok also reads Content Credentials (C2PA) metadata and can label a video automatically when the file carries it.
How to label an AI video on Instagram
- Tap + and choose your Reel or post.
- Tap Next through the editing screens.
- On the final screen, turn on Add AI label.
- Tap Share. The post shows an AI info tag.
What happens if you don't
Both platforms describe a similar escalation: they may add the label themselves, remove posts that clearly break the rules, and restrict accounts that keep posting unlabeled realistic AI content. Deepfakes of real people without consent are removed outright.
Our recommendation
Every video you make on TrendMe is AI-generated. Turn the label on every time. It protects your account, and your audience knows the fun is in the idea, not in pretending it's real.

Frequently asked questions
- Does labeling an AI video reduce views?
- Neither TikTok nor Instagram says that labeled content is pushed down. Both say that realistic AI content without a label can be labeled for you, removed, or lead to account restrictions.
- Do I need to label a cartoon or obviously fake video?
- Usually not. Both platforms focus on realistic content that could be mistaken for real footage. A dog running an espresso machine is obviously fake, but labeling it costs nothing and avoids doubt.
- Can I add the label after posting?
- On TikTok you can edit the post settings to turn the label on. The simplest habit is to turn it on before you post.
- Do TrendMe videos need a label?
- TrendMe videos are made with an AI video model and often look realistic, so we recommend turning on the AI label every time you post one.
